How to start a new motorcycle clothing line?
Hi, I am based in Australia and own a business which sells motorcycle clothing to women online. I have approached wholesalers in Australia but they won’t supply to an online store unless you also have a retail outlet which I don’t want to do. I currently sell Tshirts but want to expand into actual gear for riders such as jackets etc.
I have decided to design my own brand of motorcycle jackets, pants etc for women but need advice/help on how to do this and how to find a good designer and manufacturer. I will then supply to retail outlets.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who can help design the garments and how to pick a good manufacturer either in Australia or overseas? I have been on sites such as alibaba.com and tradekey.com but not sure how genuine some of these manufacturers are. I am prepared to travel to China and meet with manufacturer.

If I were you I would contact every manufacturer of motorcycles. See if they have a proprietary line of clothing. If not, offer to show them your designs and samples.
Clothing and accessories can offer a potentially lucrative means for bike makers to diversify their products and profits. If they can guarantee a certain quantity of an item, then you can take it to the next step; to find a good, economical manufacturer and shipper.
Going this route would be ideal because many motorcycle manufacturers sell through an already established independent network of dealers.
Start with one or two popular products and see if you’ve got what it takes to make it BIG TIME!
