Problem with 2006 Honda Gold Wing Trike and Warranty from Dealer?
I went to local Honda dealer, ask if Gold Wing could be made into trike, dealer said they could handle the whole deal. Therefore entire matter was dealer done. The dealer then sold me extended warranty for the motorcycle. The transmission 5th gear went bad and now Honda is saying that because it was Triked the warranty may not apply. This seems to me rather close to Fraud…..since an authorized Honda dealer me sold the bike and it was triked through the dealer, plus the extended warranty sale. Who should I go after and where do I find the correct office to file complaint?
Honda does not make a trike. Their Gold Wings are possibly the best BIG bike on the road. Honda probably won’t honor the warranty because of the modification exclusions in the warranty and also in the Honda extended warranty. Your dealer was a money making middle man in the trike conversion. Honda was out of the loop. The trike converter is not going to pay because he never went into the tranny. The dealer sold you the extended warranty on the Goldwing, not the trike. Lately a lot of motorcycle franchises are being bought and operated by car dealerships, or former car people. Often they bring that mindset into the motorcycle business. Greed is God. You have a major complaint with the scumbag dealer you are dealing with, But, alas, that’s all you have. No fraud. No legal footing. No criminal acts. You have a car dealer who doesn’t realize that motorcyclists talk to each other and that they won’t last in the business if they think they’re selling cars. They’re in it for today. I avoid the bigtime dealers like the plague. The only chance you have is with Honda of America. Honda is 2nd only to Kawasaki in efforts to maintain good customer relations and will often oblige the customer in an area that may be gray. But remember that you are appealing to the good will of Honda. They also will not be pleased that the dealer is getting involved in customization to the extent of voiding warranties. Good luck. ALSO……Take the extended warranty back to the dealer who sold it to you and demand a refund. They must refund, pro rated, your money on this INSURANCE policy.
